Statement #9 Parents simply don't understand the problems teenagers go through.
I still agree with this statement because in the book Melinda didn't want to tell her parents what the problem was, but if she did they could have probably helped her. They could have helped her get through the year and could have probably cut her some slack. She didn't think her parents would understand they might not have understood entirely but could relate to some extent.
All though at one point in the story her parents didn't understand her. At Christmas time her parents got her a sketchpad and pencil. " They give me a handful of gift certificates, a TV for my room, ice skates, and a sketchpad and pencils. They said they noticed me drawing." pg.72.They noticed she had been drawing a lot lately. She was really only drawing because she was having problems. Her parents misunderstood her completely. Which made her feel sad and about to cry. They were just trying to help. Parents most of the times can help and understand but sometimes they don't understand and try to help but make it worse.
Also in the book she just wanted to lay in bed and do nothing the whole vacation but they made her work. " I had 2 days before my parentsdecided I wasn't going to "lounge ariund the house all vacation" I have to go to work with them." Her parents cleary did not understand what she was going through. But if she just told her parents in the first place maybe she could have stayed home and didn't have to go through going to work.
All in all I think parents do understand it is just you have to make sure that you are clear with telling them the problem. They are always there to help and always willing to help. Thats why I agree with this statement.

Charatcer Analysis
Melinda is a typical teenage girl just trying to fit in. The only thing stopping her from fitting in is that she is a total outcast. No one likes her. She is allways depressed and has a closet she hides in at school. She a had a friend in middle school named rachel. Rachel was the one that invited Melinda to the party. That party is what brought Melinda's reputation down because she called the cops. As the story goes on she eventually she starts to make friends like David and kind of Ivy. That is what Melinda is like during the book

compare/contrast
Melinda reminds me of my cousin who lives in New Hampshire and she always says that she feels like an outcast and says she has no friends. Ironically she has a one friend named Kristen and she is very loud and abnoxious. But that was last year things are getting better and ahe is starting to make new friends and is a lot happier now.

Response move for second marking period
Repetitions, Patterns, Motifits:
I See that a lot of time she is always getting bullied by other people. Melinda also always has something bad happen to her. Like the first day of school the lunch that got spilled on her by the "basketball pole" Then is the second marking period he comes back and Melinda has to teach him to do a free throw shot. So a lot of the characters come back in different parts of the story.

Speak Reading Response Move
Readers response:
When I am reading this book a lot goes through my mind. This book makes you feel sad and you feel really bad for Melinda. I don't like how everyone is mean to her and her life as an outcast, but sometimes we forget how mean people can be and how misunderstood people could be. This is definitely not a up-lifting passage. This paage always makes me think if anything will ever get better or will at the end she will not be an outcast anymore.

Speak Statement
Statement #9: Parents simply don't understand the problems teenagers go through.
I disagree with this statement because parents were once teenagers and do know what we go through. Most parents went through high school dealing with the same types of problems. Our problems and their problems might be a little different but there are all generally the same.
Everyone goes through problems every once in awhile and odds are you are bound to have problems in high school like fitting in, finding a good group of friends, and not trying to fail every class possible. Parents had to go through these already and know how to deal with it. They can relate to a lot of your problems and even if they are different they can alter their scenario into yours to get a good outcome. So in a way they do understand.

The more specific problems like somebody texting about you behind your back, or a online problem might have some issues because you think your parents could not have possibly went through, Yeah they probably didn't have friends texting behind your back but there is a good chance that a friend was talking behind their back instead of texting. Parents generally had the same problems that we have. Our problems might be a little different like on a phone or online. But our problems and their problems have a lot of similarities, and they also have some differences.
Not only do some people think parents do not understand about problems also when they want to hangout with their friends, Parents say no and they think oh this isn't fair. Sometimes parents just want to keep you safe. Or what if you had relatives coming from across the country or from across the world. I learned to trust my parents that when they say no it is for a good reason.

Parents may not understand a lot because of all the new technology coming out. But that doesn’t mean that they didn’t have to worry about online chatting and texting, like we have to today. They understand what we are going through. My parents didn’t have texting and Facebook but they are always trying to help. That’s why I disagree with this statement.

My Priceless Moments and Objects
Everyone has their own opinions about things or objects like, favorite color, whose is better than who, what animal is the smartest, and what item is most valuable to them. All these things are things that I question a lot. Why do people have valuable items like a lucky baseball when others would find it totally useless. What is it about these items that make them so special.
Sitting at the kitchen table. Chaos all around me.” BB can you play cars with me?”
“ The sun will come out tomorrow.” “ Mom, tell Steph to stop singing.”
“ But Ally, Steph has to practice.”
“ugh okay”
“Can you BB? Please, play cars with me!”
“ Brianna get back to do your homework.”
Then I put in those little white buds and the sound goes away except for the music of my favorite songs playing faintly in the back round just loud enough for me not to hear all the loud sounds and yells around me. I sit there doing my homework with chaos all around me when i am trying to my homework but thankfully i have my iPod to mute out all the sounds around me. My little green, beat up, iPod. I could never get my homework done in time if I didn’t have my iPod. I also use my iPod when I just sit out on my deck on a nice sunny fall day. The weather is warm but not to warm and cold but not to cold almost like 70 degrees is around the temperature i like. So i sit there listening to country music. Now I know a lot of people don’t like country music they like rap and I don’t like rap because you can’t even tell what they are saying. They are talking so fast, and that is not very peaceful to me. So i sit on the deck listening country and sometimes I listen to Bob Marley. My iPod makes it even more peaceful and calming and I could listen to it all day.
Laughter, screaming, and happiness mix together as it fills the house. The smell of ham fills the room. The littlest of the grandchildren watch t.v, the middle of the grandchildren sit on the couch and tell each other how school is going or how they are doing in sports, and the oldest in the dinning room chatting with the adults. The little kids chase each other and play hide-and go-seek while others are playing an intense game of Kemp's.The familiar sound comes from the kitchen and everyone jumps to their feet and run to the kitchen to get their meal.Smiles on everyone faces as they try to figure out what kind of pierogi we want and who we want to sit next to. we all fill the seats and all laugh and joke as a family. We are finally all together in one room all enjoying ourselves. After we all gather around the t.v and watch the vintage movie we all know by heart A House Without A Christmas Tree. We grab pillows and blankets from the bedroom and make beds in front of the t.v and all watch the movie. In the middle of it all we all pause it for a desert break and secret Santa we all exchange gifts and are surprised on who got who and what they got for each other. After we all say good bye and have to wait a whole year till we are all together again. Mostly because we have family living in Florida, New Hampshire, Longmeadow, Easthampton, and South Hadley.
Christmas time has to be my favorite time of the year. The Christmas carols playing and all the red and green. It is also one of the only time my family is together and it is such a happy time when we are together as a whole family. We normally can’t have family gatherings because some of us live in different states.
Both of those descriptions are things that i value a lot. I don’t know why I value them when other people would just say oh its just an iPod when really it means a whole lot to me. My family is also very important to me without them i wouldn’t be where I was today I couldn’t imagine life without them. Both of these things are very valuable to me and always will be. I am very grateful to have a good family. Some people don’t have a wonderful family like i do and sometimes i think i take advantage of but over all i think family is the most valuable thing to me. If it were not for my noisy family everyday after school my iPod wouldn’t be as useful too me and as valuable to me. That is what my two most valuable items/ moments, so what is yours?Friday, September 9, 2011
The Boy from Space
Piper was on her way to town walking on the gravel road to get some stuff Isaac had asked for. Then suddenly a space ship looking thing started falling from the sky! Closer and closer it came. Finally Piper dove down hitting the ground with a thump and threw her arms over her head and just as she did that, crash! The space ship exploded at impact. Dust flew everywhere. She shut her eyes tight making sure no dirt could get in. Finally silence. She carefully lifted her head to see what had crashed. All that was there was some metal bits sticking into the field and a crumbled up pile of cloth. She wanted to know more about this mysterious spacecraft so she stepped back onto the gravel road and walked across to the other side to get a better look. As she got closer she saw that it wasn’t just crumbled up cloth. IT was a man. Wait. No, not a man, a boy just a little older than she was. She didn’t know whether to see if the boy was alive or go and get help, but knowing Piper , she would go help anyone. She ran towards the mangled up boy. When she got to the edge of the clearing that the crash made, she stopped.
Ender awoke in the middle of a clearing. He couldn’t tell if he was hurt or not so he checked his arms, legs, and head. All were a bit sore but as long as he could move them he should be fine. As he was getting up he stopped on his hands and feet because something caught his eye. A slight movement out of the corner of his eye. He got up fast, and turned toward the movement. He looked around the clearing but saw nothing so he thought it was just an animal or something. Just as he started looking for his desktop in the rubble, he saw it again. This time he was sure it was a person because he felt eyes watching him. So he said, “Who’s there? I know you’re watching! Come on out and show yourself!”
Ender waited but nothing happened. Just as he was to yell again, a girl came out from behind a piece of his space shuttle.
Piper hesitated before coming out, but she knew that she could always just o back and hide in the grass. So Piper cautiously stepped out from behind her hiding place. The boy standing there looked bigger now that he was standing up. He also looked confused.

“Hi. My name is Piper. I am not going to hurt you. I just want to know if you need help.” Piper started slowly.
“My name is Ender and where am I little girl? I need to get to Florida!” he responded in a harsh tone.
Right away, Piper knew that this Ender kid was going to be a handful.
“Well, you’re in England and Florida is on the other side of the ocean,” Piper said politely. Ender looked outraged!
“What do you mean? I need to get to Florida in 3 days!” Ender angrily said.
Piper did not feel like getting yelled at by some kid who looked like an astronaut freak, so she said, “If you go to the airport and buy a plane ticket you could get there in no time!”
“Where is the airport and how far?” Ender said, looking more hopeful than before.
“I can drive you there! It’s only like and hour!” Piper politely stated. “Let me go and get the truck. Stay here and stay hidden. Okay?” Piper added.
Ender did not know whether to trust her but she looked trustworthy so he nodded and turned around back toward the rubble to find his desktop.
Piper went back to the house, grabbed some food, and left a note saying she was going for another walk. Then she jumped into the truck. Edmond’s driving lesson paid off! She sped down the road and stopped where she remembered she saw the crash and there was Ender holding a flat computer screen thing and another suit in the other hand.
Ender got into the truck. Ender was confused about how a little girl could already know how to drive, but he did not question her. After a while of awkward silence, Piper said, “Why were you driving a space shuttle?”
Ender did not feel like talking but did anyway. He explained about how he was in battle school and saved the world from an alien invasion. Piper was taken back from what she was hearing. She thought that he was lying and making it up, but the story did have something to do with the space shuttle type of thing. They were getting closer and Piper had one last question for ender but as she turned to ask the question he was gone. There where he was sitting was the weird thing ender was holding and on it had a message going around the edges it said,” thanks for helping me get back to where I was suppose to go. I got a hold of the house where I was going to and got transported there!” right as she was finishing reading the message it disappeared. Piper then look out the window and saw another Space Shuttle but this one was smaller than the other and it went up into the sky. Piper knew she should turn around and go back home so that Edmond and Isaac won’t be worried. So she turn the truck around and drove hoe knowing that no one would believe this.
